Social Business

Razz Salem's Summary

Was a lead private equity investor who seek deal flows and networked with like-minded individuals who have passion to unlock investment opportunities as well as nurturing business ideas and growth.

Has 15 years of experience from working with various consortiums of private equity investors from diverse places in the region extending to the Middle East. Stumbled upon social venture rather by accident from a forum on social entrepreneurship organized by the NUS Business School in 2005. In that forum, learnt immensely about social business and began to leverage his deal-making experience with scores of high network individuals.

Passion for social work surfaced while working and living in Sri Lanka as a Head of Merger & Acquisition Division of a Multi-National Company. Saw real poverty in action. Children trawling for food at night and families huddled up in a tent by the beach. That moved and wondered how he can help combat poverty.

Until one day read a book authored by Prof. Md Yunos, winner of Nobel Peace prize and Managing Director of Grameen Bank headquartered in Bangladesh. Read the book many times over, attending various forums on social enterprise and networked with scores of social entrepreneurs in order to gain more insight on social business. Led to set up social venture investment, an industry still at its infancy.

PURPOSE & MISSION: Now to bring together a community of social investors to participate in nurturing and expanding social ventures, in so doing to propel those ventures to more meaningful levels.

A Lead Social Impact Investor who by far has managed to rally a consortium of like minded investors to participate in this noble exercise of investing in various social firms which will ultimately deliver social benefits to wider community of underprivileged people. That alone will eradicate many social issues.

EP-SI advocates want to educate many parties on the mechanics and purposes of social impact based business practices as well as investment approaches.

MISSION: To get more and more people to have a good understanding of social firms so as to empower them to create, support, and invest in social firms. Investors, empowered consumers, empowered employees, business leaders, volunteers and suppliers can be part of the solution in driving social change. They can begin by being our advocates and of course, we will have a calendar of activities to engage them.
